National Preparedness Month: Guidelines for our Ventura Community
9/21/2021 (Permalink)
Week 1: Make a Plan: Make it a family affair! Talk to family & friends about what that plan will be in case of an emergency. How will you communicate to each other to make sure everyone is safe?
Week 2: Build a Kit: Gather your supplies in one area that is easily accessible. Don’t forget to think about the kiddos and pets. If you have to stay in a shelter do you have enough snacks and activities for the little ones?
Week 3: Prepare for Disasters: Take a tour of your home. See if there are any potential obstacles in case you need to make a quick exit. Where is your home owner’s insurance policy? Have you reviewed it the last couple years? These checks will save you time in the long run, and they are low-cost, no cost preparedness
Week 4: Teach Youth About Preparedness: Talk to your little ones! It is never to early to be prepared. Review emergency numbers. What do they do if they get separated from you? Do they know your meeting point? Communication and practice are key for when emergencies arise.
