How to Protect Your Property
- Keep insurance policies, important documents, and valuables in a safe-deposit box.
- Avoid building in a floodplain or on a hillside unless you elevate and reinforce your home.
- Place your water heater electric panel on higher floors or the attic if they are in areas of your home that may be flooded.
- Install check valves in sewer traps to prevent floodwater from backing up into the drains of your home.
- Build barriers to stop floodwater from entering the building. Such as berms, retaining walls, and levees.
- Keep sandbags handy in case of flood
- Seal walls in of your foundation and in basements with waterproofing compounds to avoid seepage through cracks.
